Punjab: Monsoon seems to be getting active in Punjab once again. Today, August 19, there is a possibility of rain in many parts of the state. The Meteorological Department has issued a ‘Yellow Alert’ for heavy rain in Pathankot and Hoshiarpur. Some areas in these districts may receive heavy rain along with thunderstorms.
Earlier, Chandigarh recorded 72.4 mm of rain in just two hours yesterday. This is the highest rainfall in a period of two hours during the current monsoon season. Due to heavy rain, many areas of Chandigarh and the tricity region were waterlogged.
Rain expected in many districts
According to the Meteorological Department, light to moderate rain is likely in various parts of Punjab today. Rain has been predicted at many places in Pathankot, Gurdaspur, Hoshiarpur, Nawanshahr, Fatehgarh Sahib, Rupnagar, Patiala and Mohali.
Apart from this, light to moderate rain is likely in some areas of Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Kapurthala, Jalandhar, Ferozepur, Moga, Ludhiana, Barnala, Mansa and Sangrur. Rain is also likely in Fazilka, Faridkot, Muktsar and Bathinda.
Chance of cloudiness in Chandigarh
The sky over Chandigarh is expected to remain cloudy today, with rain likely in some areas. After the heavy rains yesterday, a change in the temperature and weather conditions of the city has been observed.
Slight increase in temperature
Despite the rain, Punjab recorded a slight increase of about 0.1 degrees Celsius in the maximum temperature. Yesterday, Bathinda was the hottest place in the state, where the temperature was recorded at 37.4 degrees Celsius.
Weather forecast after August 20
The Meteorological Department has not issued any specific rain warning for the five-day period after August 20. However, this does not mean that the rains will stop completely. According to the weather department’s forecast, there is a possibility of continued spells of rain in various parts of Punjab during this period. For today, residents of Pathankot and Hoshiarpur are advised to be alert during heavy rains and thunderstorms. Due to changing weather patterns, localized rain conditions may occur in other districts as well.
