Punjab: After the continuous heavy rains in the neighboring state of Himachal Pradesh, the Meteorological Department has now issued a ‘red alert’ for the first time in Punjab and Chandigarh. According to the Meteorological Department, there is a possibility of heavy to very heavy rains in Punjab in the coming days. Apart from this, the risk of lightning has been expressed in many areas.
The Meteorological Department has advised people to be alert and avoid standing under trees, electricity poles and weak structures. People have also been prevented from going near waterlogged areas and rivers and drains. The department has issued a heavy rain warning for the next seven days, till August 2, in which people have been appealed to be alert.
Meanwhile, the situation has remained critical due to continuous rains in Himachal Pradesh. Due to heavy rains, the water level of Bhakra Dam and Pong Dam is continuously increasing. It is being told that the water level in both the dams is approaching the danger mark, which is increasing concerns in the lower areas of Punjab.
Meanwhile, reports of a major accident due to rain on the Pathankot-Chamba highway in Himachal Pradesh have surfaced. According to reports, a car went out of control and fell into a ditch, killing five members of a family. It is being told that the family met with an accident while returning home. Due to heavy rain, flood-like situation has arisen in many areas of Himachal Pradesh, which has affected the roads and normal life has been affected.
